A U.S. government-led partnership, Power Africa harnesses the collective resources of public and private sectors to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. Power Africa’s goal is to add at least 30,000 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and more reliable electricity generation capacity and 60 million connections by 2030.

Nearly two out of three people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity. In 2013, President Obama launched Power Africa, a U.S. government-led partnership created to address this challenge.
Power Africa now convenes the collective resources of more than 200 public and private sector partners to stimulate investment in sub-Saharan Africa’s energy sector.
Power Africa’s goal is to advance inclusive, low-carbon economic growth that improves lives and powers health, education, and prosperity by adding 60 million new electricity connections and 30,000 megawatts of new, cleaner power in more than 40 countries.
