Strengthening Power Grids to Deliver More Power to More People in West Africa

Twelve countries now share energy across borders and a key partnership will add 4,100 km of power lines to the region's electricity network.

DFC, Sierra Leone Promote Access to Reliable Energy

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Government of Sierra Leone announced up to $412 million in financing and political risk insurance in support of the country’s plans to address rolling blackouts and expand its power system through renewable energy solutions in the future.

POWER AFRICA GOALS

Nearly two out of three people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to electricity. In 2013, President Obama launched Power Africa, a U.S. government-led partnership created to address this challenge.

Power Africa now convenes the collective resources of more than 200 public and private sector partners to stimulate investment in sub-Saharan Africa’s energy sector.

Power Africa’s goal is to advance inclusive, low-carbon economic growth that improves lives and powers health, education, and prosperity by adding 60 million new electricity connections and 30,000 megawatts of new, cleaner power in more than 40 countries.

Today, through the power of partnership, Power Africa is creating connections to turn more Lights On!
