All around the world, in every sector of development, we have seen how these are the leaders who drive the most transformative and enduring change. But, changing our mindsets and our methods across the agency has, of course, been challenging. It has proven time-consuming to reach beyond our established partners to build relationships with these local groups. It has often taken more staff resources to help new partners navigate the sometimes-complex process of partnering with USAID.
Supporting School Sanitation in Yemen

Yemen’s school-age children represent nearly 33 percent of the country’s overall population and their access to proper sanitation is critical. Lack of proper bathroom facilities at schools in Yemen’s Taiz governorate meant students had to interrupt their school day to walk home and miss their lessons.

We were happy to welcome USAID's Counselor Clinton White to Colombia. During his stay he visited Cartagena, Bogotá and Cali, places where he had the opportunity to see spaces that, with the support of USAID, promote memory, reconciliation, access to justice and conflict resolution.

Administrator Samantha Power Launches the Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance Policy

This policy codifies what we know to be true that democracy is not and cannot be the work of any one department or team. It is all of our responsibility. So if we look back, and I'm just going to, you know, focus on a few of the highlights of the new policy before handing off here, but if we look back at the work over the years that had been done, you know, to support courageous citizens, civil society organizations pushing back on restrictive new laws, the number of independent media journalists who've been trained and supported now getting viability, you know, market support in understanding how to stay afloat, even economically.
