USAID to Launch New Fund to Tap Into Private Sector’s Competitive Edge To Solve Global Challenges

At the World Economic Forum today, Administrator Samantha Power announced USAID will launch the Enterprises for Development, Growth, and Empowerment (EDGE) Fund, an innovative new fund designed to unlock and unleash outsized private sector impacts on global development challenges. USAID will work with Congress to provide $50 million for the fund, the first-of-its kind private sector partnership fund dedicated to launching partnerships that leverage business capabilities and influence commercial operations to advance development objectives.

U.S. Feed The Future Initiative Expanded To Zambia In Response To Growing Global Food Security Crisis

United States and Zambia Commemorate Cross-Sectoral Finance Management Project

After five years of implementation, a highly effective U.S. government project on strengthening public financial management systems is set to officially end. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Accountable Governance for Improved Service Delivery (AGIS) project worked with the Zambian government to strengthen public financial management systems in the Ministries of Health and Education.

Administrator Samantha Power Visits with Women Farmers and Chibombo Community Members in Zambia

On the third day of her trip to Zambia, Administrator Samantha Power traveled to Chibombo District where she met with community members who were engaging in a local decision-making exercise to determine the use of public resources. The Administrator observed their process of voting on which infrastructure projects are most important to them and heard from the community how this type of locally based civic engagement empowers the citizens and provides transparency into how public funds are used.

On the second day of her visit to Zambia, Administrator Power visited Good Nature Agro Company (GNA), one of Zambia's largest legume seed suppliers and exporters. The Administrator toured GNA’s seed warehouse and spoke with staff and food security experts about how private-sector partnerships support Zambia’s agriculture sector and help Zambia increase their regional exports to provide food for other African nations as the world faces a severe food security crisis.
