Vietnam is among the top five plastic waste polluters of the world’s oceans. Of the approximately 25 million tons of solid waste Vietnam generates each year, it is estimated that plastic products constitute 10 to 20 percent. Properly managing the country’s pressing plastic pollution problem requires collective action on the part of industry, the government, and citizens. USAID Local Works, through the "Local Solutions for Plastic Pollution" (LSPP) project, has supported Vietnam since 2020 to reduce plastic pollution through a network of partners that share this common interest. On December 17, LSPP and its partners officially launched the Network on Plastic and Health Action Partnership. The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Nguyen Trung Thang, Vice Director of the Institute of Strategy, Natural Resources and Environment Policy within Vietnam’s Ministry of Nature Resources and Environment, and attended by representatives of the 18 partners, including government agencies, LNGOs, INGOs, enterprises, research institutes, and others.

The official establishment of the partnership will promote the cooperation of partners and stakeholders in several technical areas such as capacity building, communication, and policy advocacy, as well as implementing models for the collection, classification, recycling, and reuse of plastic waste.
