On February 1st, USAID’s Reducing Pollution Project handed over autoclave disinfecting equipment to the Can Tho Central General Hospital. The equipment can process 220 pounds of infectious medical plastic waste daily so that it can be safely recycled, reducing the need for incineration. USAID provided training to hospital staff on its use and connected the hospital with purchasers of plastic.

USAID’s support to the hospital reduces emissions of incinerated medical waste and promotes plastic recycling.
