Today, Administrator Power traveled to Dar es Salaam to conclude her visit to Tanzania. Administrator Power first met with staff at U.S. Mission Tanzania to thank them for advancing the longstanding relationship between the United States and the people of Tanzania. The Administrator then met with young women entrepreneurs who are innovating in the agriculture sector in Tanzania. Each of these women discussed how, with catalytic support from USAID’s Feed the Future initiative, they were able to start or expand their businesses, move from employees to employers, and mentor the next generation of Tanzanian entrepreneurs. The group also discussed steps to further encourage innovation in the agriculture sector and reduce barriers to investment and business growth.

Administrator Power participated in a roundtable discussion with a group of civil society leaders to learn about Tanzania’s governance trajectory and democratic reform agenda.

The Administrator concluded her visit with a press conference, where she reflected on her visit, the depth of the partnership with the people of Tanzania, and the three features of today’s relationship between USAID and the Tanzanian people. She also underscored the importance of the recently signed five-year Development Objective Agreement between the United States and the United Republic of Tanzania. Under the agreement, USAID will collaborate with the Government of Tanzania to provide more than $1 billion in foreign assistance with a focus on economic growth, food security, health, climate, education, and democracy, human rights, and governance.
