Economic Growth

Body
USAID/Liberia is working to help spur private-sector led, inclusive growth through strategic policy reform initiatives and direct engagement with private sector partners interested in the opportunities presented by Liberia’s rich agricultural and natural resources.  Expanding and strengthening agricultural value chains and conserving forest and biodiversity resources are central elements of USAID’s economic growth strategy in Liberia.

Rural Liquidity and Financial Inclusion in Liberia Activity

Body
The Rural Liquidity and Financial Inclusion in Liberia (RLFIL) activity is designed to increase access to critical liquidity and banking services in financially underserved areas of Liberia. The country’s financial and banking services are concentrated in Monrovia, which makes it difficult, time consuming, and expensive for many Liberians to meet basic financial needs such as accessing cash, receiving salary payments, and obtaining a loan.

USAID/Liberia, in concert with other donors, works with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to address access to education, quality of instruction, and improved governance of the Liberian education system. USAID education programs focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning (especially early grade reading) and increasing equitable access to safe learning opportunities for all learners, including students with disabilities, girls, and out-of-school youth. USAID programming also taps into the energy and dynamism of Liberia’s large youth population through a new activity that emphasizes developing the capacity of young Liberians to be key players in their country’s journey to self-reliance. USAID/Liberia’s education programming focuses on the six central counties with the largest populations (Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, and Nimba).

The Liberian education system is emerging from a prolonged and brutally destructive period of civil unrest.
