USAID and the Ministries of Public Works and Housing and Health constructed and equipped Al-Bashir Emergency Hospital to provide life-saving services for 50,000 patients a month.

More than one third of youth in Jordan are unemployed and lack opportunities for employment and professional development. USAID and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, under the USAID-funded school construction program, is tackling this pressing issue head on.

USAID expects the highest Health Safety & Environment standards during the construction of their school-funded Programs in Jordan. The safety of the people on the sites, or in the vicinity of the sites, should never be compromised.  

Without access to accurate, up-to-date school building data, planning and budgeting for school maintenance is challenging. Recognizing the significance of school maintenance data, the Jordan Ministry of Education, with the support of the USAID Enhancing School Management and Planning (ESMP) Activity, kicked off the 2021 School Facility Audit, deploying nearly 200 directorate engineers to assess maintenance needs of close to 3,000 schools.

USAID and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing have cooperated to create opportunities for young graduates to kickstart their career within USAID-funded school projects.

USAID, in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MPWH) and the Ministry of Education (MOE), have constructed school projects under their SKEP and JSEP programs all over Jordan since 2006.  Eng. Bassima Shehan is the Head of the Division of Internationally Financed Projects at the MPWH.  She shares some of her thoughts and experiences from working on the SKEP and JSEP programs.
