On May 12, Administrator Samantha Power met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss USAID’s continued strategic partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and shared development priorities in promoting a stable Middle East. Administrator Power and King Abdullah discussed how USAID can help Jordan address challenges crucial to the Kingdom’s stability, such as deepening food insecurity in the region caused by Putin’s war in Ukraine, structural economic reforms, water provision, and regional tensions.

The United States Provides Nearly $808 Million in Emergency Humanitarian Assistance for Syria

Today, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced the United States is providing nearly $808 million in additional humanitarian assistance for the Syria crisis response at the sixth Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region,” hosted by the European Union. This new funding includes nearly $446 million from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and is the largest USAID funding contribution for Syria this year.

United States Provides Additional $4.7 million to Jordan for Urgent COVID-19 Assistance

Today, the United States, through the United States Agency for International Development, announced $4.7 million in urgent COVID-19 assistance for Jordan. This funding will provide technical assistance, equipment, and supplies to health facilities diagnosing and treating COVID-19 patients, including Al-Bashir Hospitals and Jordan’s laboratories. The funds will also train frontline health workers providing critical care to COVID-19 patients and administering vaccines.
