USAID’s Building University-Industry Learning and Development through Innovation and Technology Alliance project is helping Vietnamese universities produce graduates with the skills Vietnam’s increasingly sophisticated economy demands. This project and its private sector partners linked engineering students across Vietnam with projects promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology. On March 16, it joined Dow Vietnam to host the eProjects Innovation Showcase at Cao Thang Technical College in Ho Chi Minh City, in which six student teams showcased and demonstrated their industry-mentored prototypes on unique solutions to real-world problems, such as plastic use, material recycling, and logistics challenges. Teams from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Danang University of Technology, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education won prizes for best solutions in repurposing paint materials, plastic waste management, and biodegradable chewing gum, respectively.
So what? By linking industry expertise with universities and providing opportunities for innovation and design, USAID helps equip students with the skills they will need to meet the labor demands of Vietnam's rapidly modernizing economy.
