SHI, Vietnam’s national health insurance system, currently does not provide reimbursement for TB care and treatment services. However, the Ministry of Health is preparing to provide TB coverage through SHI in 2022. To help TB health facilities meet SHI eligibility requirements by the end of 2021, the USAID Support to End TB project has provided technical assistance to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health to develop and issue national TB guidelines on SHI implementation for TB services. The guidelines include an operational plan and practical steps for clinics to provide both preventive TB services and treatment TB services, a critical prerequisite for SHI eligibility.
USAID’s assistance on TB health services guidelines is helping the Ministry of Health ensure a smooth TB financing transition from the national targeted fund to the SHI fund, which will improve access to TB services and further support the Government of Vietnam on its goal of eliminating TB in Vietnam by 2030.
