OVERVIEW  

Local Impact project as an innovative framework for meaningful, sustained impact across Asia and Africa that puts local communities at the center of development. Local Impact is a multi-year, multi-sector, and multi-country global partnership between the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and USAID that allows USAID to work with AKF and its partners to design and implement projects that address development challenges across sectors. Overall beneficiaries of the project consist of 67,066 (34,708 female, 33,358 male) people. Through the project, AKF and USAID will work with marginalized and vulnerable communities to:

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES  

Strategic objective 1 (SO1) – catalyze inclusive economic growth and ensure basic livelihoods. 

Strategic objective 2 (SO2) - enhance infrastructure and access to basic services with a focus on clean energy.

Strategic objective 3 (SO3) – enhance the capacity of citizens and local institutions. 

Strategic objective 4 (SO4) -improved promotion of pluralism and social cohesion

KEY RESULTS PER STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES 

SO1 – Catalyze Inclusive Economic Growth and Ensure Basic Livelihoods.

  • 406 (205 female, 201 male) marginalized adolescents and youth from GBAO and Khatlon improved their entrepreneurial and employability skills through the Youth Entrepreneurship and Employability Skills program.
  • 124 enterprises (59 female, 65 male) were supported by Accelerate Prosperity’s incubation and acceleration services, and 15 businesses (11 female, 4 male) received a total investment of $263,557.
  • 26 Afghan refugees (16 females, 10 males) graduated from the IT course provided by the project partner - Alif Academy.

SO2 – Enhance Infrastructure and Access to Basic Services with a Focus on Clean Energy.

  • 33 businesses (5 female, 28 mal) from the energy sector participated in AP’s incubation bootcamp.
  • 7 businesses (1 female, 6 male) from the energy sector received investment to the total amount of $ 231,352.
  • 60 students graduated from UCA’s SPCE electrical and home appliance repair courses.

SO3—Enhance the Capacity of Citizens and Local Institutions.

  • 2,207 community members (1,769 female, 438 male) and local partners participated in co-creation or feedback sessions.
  • 1,383 community members (683 female, 700 male) benefited from co-created / development solutions.
  • 3 design challenges solutions are under the implementation: 1. Adolescent pathway, 2. ECD challenge solution in Khatlon region, 3. Improving access to finance for local farmers in Khatlon region.

SO4 – Improved Promotion of Pluralism and Social Cohesion. 

  • To conduct ongoing consultation and engagement with communities and local stakeholders through established feedback loops, AKF has approached 53 (34 female) community members, who benefited from the various project interventions. Overall, the feedback was highly positive with a high score reflecting the high level of satisfaction of the beneficiaries with the project results.
