Liza Almo is the Acting Director of the Office of Civil Rights. Previously, she served as the Division Chief of Complaints and Resolution and was responsible for the EEO Complaints, Anti-Harassment, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs. 

Ms. Almo graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Labor Relations. She became a certified mediator and started working in the EEO and civil rights field over 20 years ago before attending law school. Ms. Almo holds a Juris Doctor with Honors and an LL.M. in National Security and U.S. Foreign Relations Law. In addition, she is certified by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as an EEO investigator. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Almo clerked for a federal judge. She later transferred to the federal executive branch and worked in employment law, civil rights, EEO, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Labor, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Ms. Almo is a 2019 recipient of the DHS Secretary's Award for her anti-harassment work. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
