A home is more than a place to live.  It is the place where we feel safe; where we can be ourselves; where we can forget the stresses in our lives, if only temporarily.  Home offers a sense of permanence in an unpredictable and capricious world.

Kosovar companies like @WolfGmbH recognize that everyone deserves a place to call home.  This diaspora-owned firm is expanding production of its modular houses with support from USAID.   Modular housing is eco-friendly, energy efficient, easily transported, and therefore easy to scale.  Kosovo is becoming a leader in modular housing through the MadeinKosovo brand.

Each year some 100 Kosovo-made modular houses are exported with an estimated value of $6.45 million.  USAID has been supporting companies like @WolfGmbH to forge new  connections with companies in the wider region by helping them to participate in international industry fairs and Business to Business events, and most recently through direct engagement with the diaspora.   Demand for this rising Kosovar industry continues to grow, especially from EU countries and Switzerland, which face their own housing shortages To meet the need, @WolfGmbH, set up production facilities in Istog, Kosovo, and successfully opened its new factory in August 2021. The factory currently has the capacity to produce 250 prefabricated modular houses annually and employs 60 new workers. Continued support for the modular housing industry in Kosovo could serve as one component of a broader plan to guarantee affordable housing in Europe.

USAID will continue to facilitate linkages between Kosovo and diaspora to further promote quality MadeinKosovo products like the homes constructed by @WolfGmbH because it will fuel Kosovo’s economy and enable Kosovo to continue to contribute to a better future for the region.
