Nexhat Merovci, a construction engineer with the municipality of Vushtrri, is dedicated to elevating the quality of life in his community through improved construction projects. Recognizing the need to enhance his project management skills and address the unique challenges encountered in construction projects in Kosovo, Nexhat participated in a peer-to-peer exchange facilitated by USAID's Kosovo Municipal Integrity activity.

Alongside two colleagues from Vushtrri and counterparts from Gjakova municipality, they shared experiences and best practices in local solutions for contract management. During the exchange, Nexhat learned about quality control processes and the importance of a clear division of tasks and obligations between the contract manager and supervisor, which helped him in his role as a supervisor overseeing infrastructure initiatives such as roads, clinics, and a new kindergarten in Vushtrri, his hometown.

“The experience we’ve gained will benefit our citizens as we implement projects of superior quality. The contract management experience and monitoring reports from Gjakova served as an exemplary model for all in Kosovo,“ says Nexhat.

Through the Kosovo Municipal Integrity Activity, USAID promotes the increased sharing of local knowledge and best practices among municipal officials as a way to achieve improved outcomes for all stakeholders involved. These efforts are primarily focused on reducing corruption, and enhancing the integrity and effectiveness of public procurement.
