An impressive average of 27 tons of recyclables per month are being diverted from landfills thanks to USAID’s Recycling Matters Activity. With support from USAID, waste collectors from the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities in the Gračanica municipality are leading this initiative, which thrives on the foundation of robust community bonds. Here, households and businesses actively participate in the separation of recyclable waste.

Six months after the introduction of recycling bins in the Laplje Selo/Llapnasellë neighborhood, informal waste collectors express their heartfelt gratitude to the citizens and businesses through a Thank You note. They appreciate the effective engagement of the community in recycling.

USAID’s Recycling Matters Activity, a partnership with Democracy Plus, a local non-governmental organization, is significantly contributing to the socio-economic integration of Gračanica’s most marginalized communities. Beyond addressing environmental concerns, this initiative stands as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration among different communities, paving the way for a brighter, more resilient future for all.
