I started working for PEPFAR in 2000, before it was even known as PEPFAR!
Over the years, I have had the great pleasure of helping to integrate HIV into the larger global health work that USAID pioneered in Tanzania, including setting up pediatric AIDS initiatives that have contributed immensely to the improvement of services to infants and children.
It has been great to witness the paradigm shift from a more treatment-focused PEPFAR program to one that is more robust and responsive to other critical issues such as health systems strengthening, health insurance, and primary health care.
