USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) Mike Michener will be in Burundi May 23 - 27 to help launch Kugwiza, a new activity in the agricultural sector, and to visit farmers in different parts of the country who are directly benefiting from this activity.

On Wednesday, May 24, DAA Michener will meet the press at Kiriri Gardens Hotel, from 13:30 to 14:00.

The official launch ceremony of the USAID-funded Kugwiza Activity will commence promptly at 14:00 and end at 17:00.

Guest speakers at the ceremony include the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, H.E.  Sanctus Niragira, as well as many representatives of USAID implementing partners. Members of the press are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Kugwiza is part of a regional initiative for food security implemented by the United States in the Great Lakes region. It connects 130,000 Burundian farmers to innovative tools and information they need to be more productive over the next several cropping seasons. Kugwiza is funded by USAID as part of Feed the Future, the United States Government’s global hunger and food security initiative.

Investing in food security for the health and prosperity of all Burundians is among USAID’s top priorities in the country.
