In Vietnam, women with disabilities are among the most vulnerable marginalized groups and are often underrepresented in public domains. Facilitating the association and assembly of groups of women with disabilities helps promote women’s empowerment. On June 28, with support from USAID’s Inclusion-I project, the first club of women with disabilities was launched in Phong Dien district, Thua Thien-Hue province at a ceremony attended by 70 participants, including representatives of the Organization of People with Disabilities of Thua Thien-Hue province, the Phong Dien district Women’ Union, the Phong Dien organization of people with disabilities, local officials in Phong Dien district, local media, and local women with disabilities. The club will provide a space for women with disabilities to hold monthly meetings where they can help support each other, w share life experiences, or discuss opportunities for improving livelihoods and connecting with others. The club members will also benefit from activities and training on independent living, gender-based violence, home visits, and networking.

With support from USAID, the establishment of the Phong Dien Club of Women with Disabilities will enhance the self-empowerment of women with disabilities, helping them exercise their rights to inclusion and self-development.
