Vietnamese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the largest contributor, as a sector, to the country’s employment and GDP growth. Understanding and addressing major barriers limiting SME growth while developing their manufacturing capacities helps Vietnamese SMEs integrate into supply chains, accelerates domestic SME growth, and promotes private sector-led growth in Vietnam. The USAID Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises (LinkSME) project recently assessed more than 100 Vietnamese SMEs to better understand the major constraints they face in joining supply chains. The assessments reveal that SMEs frequently lack key performance indicators (KPIs) which makes effectively evaluating progress towards key business objectives difficult. To address this issue  USAID LinkSME has developed a KPI manual and data dashboard, which was rolled out earlier this month, to assist SMEs in the formation, implementation and continuous application of critical KPIs.

So What? By improving SME’s efficiency and competitiveness, USAID is accelerating Vietnam’s Journey to Self-Reliance and improving its independence from influence by malign actors.
