Forest dependent communities play a critical role in biodiversity conservation, yet a recent USAID supported survey among these communities revealed a lack of knowledge of the benefits of conservation. In response, from June 7-12, USAID organized a series of communication events to raise awareness about the links between biodiversity conservation and livelihoods within local communities in the buffer zones of protected areas.

Communities that understand the importance of biodiversity and conservation for sustaining livelihoods are more likely to be proactively involved in environmental stewardship.
