An Giang province has the highest Tuberculosis (TB) burden in Vietnam, but TB detection services are not readily available in its rural locations. In April and May of 2023, USAID supported community-based TB screenings in 8 rural districts using portable chest X-ray machines and, for the first time, rapid Truenat and Xpert tests. Nearly 17,000 vulnerable people were screened, and 292 TB cases were detected.

Each year, it is estimated that 170,000 people are infected with TB in Vietnam, but less than 60% receive treatment. This work is expanding testing into new locations, supporting Vietnam to meet its goal to end TB by 2035.
