Expanding rehabilitation services and improving quality of life for persons with disabilities has been a strong element of USAID support in Vietnam. Over the past four years, USAID’s  Disability Rights Enforcement, Coordination, and Therapies (DIRECT) project provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Health  to develop and test the new national rehabilitation practice/procedures and record management system that promotes outcome-based practices, mandated for nationwide use as of August 5. The new routine adopts international good practices and expands beyond the traditional medical focus to include environmental and personal factors in rehabilitation assessment and treatment, guiding clinical assessment, treatment planning and measurement of treatment outcomes.

USAID helps enable standardization of rehabilitation practices and health information, improving service quality and strengthening rehabilitation governance, leading to improved quality of life for persons with disabilities in Vietnam.
