On March 23 in Danang, Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock joined provincial government officials in launching the new Danang City Energy Efficiency Awards program supported by USAID’s Vietnam Urban Energy Security (VUES) project. The innovative new awards program recognizes enterprises that implement energy efficiency and renewable energy measures, and that apply innovative clean energy solutions. Later in the day, Mission Director Yastishock joined representatives from the Danang provincial government, a city power utility, and automotive manufacturing company in the studio of a local television station for a talk show on clean energy solutions for urban areas. The talk show was aired as part of the station’s programming for Earth Hour, an annual worldwide event focused on raising awareness of climate change. In her remarks, Mission Director Yastishock highlighted USAID’s new Innovation Challenge Fund, announced during Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry’s recent visit to Vietnam.

Reducing emissions from the energy sector is critical for Vietnam to reach its net-zero goals. USAID is working to catalyze and expand the market potential for innovative solutions to urban energy.
