Ashgabat, Turkmenistan: On November 3, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) commemorates a major milestone, marking 60 years since it was founded by President John F. Kennedy. USAID’s Regional Mission Central Asia joins a global celebration to mark the Agency’s 60th anniversary. For six decades, USAID has built its reputation as the world’s leader in international development by partnering with countries around the world to strengthen communities and improve lives.

In more than 100 countries around the world, USAID’s team and partners work together on development and humanitarian projects that help save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, and improve health, education, and economic prosperity.

Lawrence Hardy II Arrives as USAID Regional Mission Director to Central Asia

The U.S. Mission to Turkmenistan is pleased to announce Lawrence Hardy II, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, has arrived in Almaty as the new Regional Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central Asia. Mr. Hardy will lead USAID’s regional programs across Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. USAID Administrator Samantha Power administered the oath of office at USAID Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

USAID announces New Central Asia Trade Activity

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new $19 million five-year activity, USAID Trade Central Asia, that will be implemented in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The new trade activity will build on USAID’s decades of achievements facilitating regional trade, enterprise development, and regional connectivity. USAID Trade Central Asia will take a facilitative approach towards three strategic objectives, providing the public and private sector with technical assistance to achieve these goals.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the eleventh annual Central Asia Trade Forum, an international event promoting regional trade and connectivity across Central Asia and beyond focused on post-COVID recovery and resilience in the region. This five-day virtual event includes over 80 distinguished speakers from around the world including Central Asia and the United States and 3,500 participants representing 42 countries.

September 9, 2021, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) celebrates the successful completion of its four-year USAID Enriching Youth for Tomorrow Program implemented by JA Worldwide, one of the oldest and largest youth-serving NGOs in the world. The activity improved the capacity of Turkmenistani youth to contribute to the local economy and their communities.

New Youth Development Program in Turkmenistan

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded regional Social Innovation in Central Asia program implemented by Eurasia Foundation, together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Turkmenistan hosted a youth forum dedicated to ‘World Day against Trafficking in Persons’ with participation from 60 young leaders from different regions of Turkmenistan, and representatives from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the State Migration Services, public organizations, and international agencies.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today inaugurated its Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment program in Turkmenistan.  The five-year program covers the five countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan and will strengthen regional cooperation on the management of shared water resources in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya River basins.
