OVERVIEW
To mitigate the economic and financial crisis in Tunisia, much of USAID’s Economic Growth programming focuses on direct support to small and medium-sized enterprises. USAID has also focused on improving the business-enabling environment to create conditions for businesses to grow and thrive. USAID has focused on far-ranging public financial management reforms, which should, once fully implemented, substantially improve government transparency and accountability, currently a major source of public concern.

POWER TUNISIA

Power Tunisia promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions to help reduce fossil fuel consumption, increase electricity production from renewable energies, and promote energy efficiency. With a focus on private sector-led solutions and expertise, this activity will leverage knowledge and experience from partners to increase the supply of renewable energy, reduce demand, lower costs, and improve the efficiency of energy consumption across Tunisia.
VISIT TUNISIA
2021-2026 • $22.5 million • Chemonics International
USAID's Visit Tunisia tourism activity enhances Tunisia’s alternative tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth and for populations in underserved regions of the country. Focused on alternative tourism through increased private sector-led investment, the activity will build on current market trends and capitalize on the country’s cultural, natural, and historical endowments for the direct benefit of tens of thousands of small businesses.
FISCAL AND ACCOUNTING SYSTEM OF TUNISIA (FAST)

The Fiscal and Accounting System of Tunisia (FAST) advances the e-governance and economic reform priorities of the Government of Tunisia. FAST is accelerating the Ministry of Finance’s plan for an enhanced Public Financial Management Information System to increase the efficiency, transparency, and reliability of public finances and budget formulation. The e-services and technical assistance that FAST is strengthening the Ministry’s capacity to fulfill fiscal and budgetary requirements, including public accounting for expenditures and increased tax revenues.
USAID-NREL PARTNERSHIP FOR DECARBONIZED AND CLIMATE RESILIENT ENERGY SYSTEMS
2020-2024 • $2.5 million • National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
This activity provides experts from two U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories to support Tunisia in transitioning to advanced energy systems for clean, reliable, and affordable power, which is crucial for achieving development goals, meeting climate targets, and reducing dependence on foreign fossil fuel sources.
