The United States government, through the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), saves lives from malaria in Angola. With an annual budget of $19 million, USAID improves malaria surveillance, monitoring and evaluation, health systems strengthening, case management, and social behavior communication. Recognizing the need to extend health services at the community level, the Government of Angola, with PMI support, has adopted a strategy to employ community and health development agents (ADECOS) to prevent disease and promote health.
