In a small village in Ngoma, Rwanda, Alphonse and Vestine live with their eight children. The village is small but lively, with many banana trees growing seemingly in every little spot around the small colorful houses. She was living with her unemployed mother in a small town in Rwanda, and she struggled to keep her life together and take care of her child. “I was desperate and thought that my life would never get better,” recalls Claudine.

When she moved to Nyamagabe in rural Rwanda, Esperance found that it was impossible to find her favorite meal, fresh isambaza, in the local market. Unlike her hometown, this new place had no access to lakes or fish farms, and people here did not consume fish at all.
