The Government of the United States of America, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide the Peruvian Government with 321 million dollars, for cooperation projects in Peru, during the next 5 years. This will be possible thanks to the donation agreement signed this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.
The objective is to continue the joint work that the United States, through USAID, and the Peruvian Government have been carrying out over 60 years, achieving significant progress in poverty reduction, food security, basic infrastructure, consolidation of democratic institutions, and better health and education services to meet the needs of Peruvian citizens.
With this new agreement, the United States will canalize USAID's support to contribute to the development of Peru in areas of priority interest to both countries.
A first area of cooperation is the economic and social development of rural communities that seek legal and sustainable sources of income through the development of production chains. USAID will work with the Peruvian government to ensure a greater presence of the state and create the conditions for further development of the private sector and the market.
A second area of cooperation is improving public integrity to reduce corruption. USAID will support key supervisory and control entities in the Government of Peru to implement their policies and reforms for greater efficiency and transparency in the state; while reinforcing the roles of civil society and the private sector in the fight against corruption.
A third area of cooperation is the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources, particularly the Amazon forests and water resources. This work supports the Peruvian Government's National Environmental Policy to 2030. USAID will support Peru in strengthening the government's capacities to manage natural resources as a basis for growth and sustainable development; also favoring sustainable investment by the private sector and the rights of indigenous populations.
In addition to these three areas of cooperation, the Agreement will support Peru's efforts to achieve greater economic and social integration of Venezuelan migrants and refugees, through support for the recognition of professional titles and licenses to job training for less qualified workers. and support for business creation.
The international cooperation relationship between Peru and the United States of America is solid and long-standing. They are friendly and partner countries, and this cooperation agreement is proof of this relationship.
