1979: Smallpox is eradicated 

1984: UNICEF launches the Universal Childhood Immunization (UCI) program 

1988: GPEI created US Government begins consistently funding GPEI in mid  -1990's. PATH develops Vaccine Vial Monitors with USAID support 

1985 - 1993: USIAD launches the Technology and Resources for Child Health Project (Reach 1 and Reach 2) 

1987: USAID launches the Health Tech Project 

19080's through mid-1990's: EPI and UCI become platforms for USAID's Immunization strategy 

1992: Health Tech Project Introduces SoloShot, an auto-disable syringe

1996: US Congress approves funding earmark which extends investment of Agency polio eradication resources to WHO regions beyond the Americas

1990 - 2010: USAID and the international community pivot to a system strengthening approach- investing more technical assistance in a longer timeframe to produce sustainable vaccination programs and lasting benefits through programs. 

2000: USAID begins supporting Gavi the Vaccine alliance 

2009: US Global Health Initiative commits to maximizing investments to address global health challenges 

2015: UN Member States adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 

2021: Immunization Agenda 2030, a new global vision and strategy for vaccines, launches
