The following is attributable to USAID Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Principal Advisor to the Administrator Mark Feierstein, National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere Juan Gonzalez, and Special Envoy for Haiti Dan Foote spoke with members of the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) on September 1, 2021.

Feierstein provided updates on USAID’s response to the August 14 earthquake and the Agency’s broader development assistance efforts, in support of the U.S. government’s commitment to the people of Haiti. NHAEON leaders shared their impressions from their recent flyover of the earthquake-affected areas and meetings with the USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team, Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, and U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Michele J. Sison in Haiti. Feierstein and NHAEON leaders also discussed how USAID can enhance its engagement with the Haitian diaspora to achieve better development outcomes in Haiti.

USAID looks forward to continuing its ongoing engagement with the diaspora to help build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous Haiti.
