Today, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with Marwan A. Al-Ghanem, Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, to discuss areas of collaboration – including combating food insecurity and providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable.

Deputy Administrator Coleman expressed the Agency’s appreciation for the collaboration with Kuwait to address development challenges in the Middle East and globally. The power of this cooperation is especially apparent in our shared efforts to combat food insecurity, triggered in large part by Putin’s war. Many Middle Eastern countries that buy grain and oilseeds from Ukraine – including Egypt, Lebanon, Libya and Tunisia – are impacted, as is the supply of food aid available for Yemen.

Deputy Administrator Coleman thanked Director General Al-Ghanem for Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian response in Yemen and elsewhere. She welcomed continued close coordination and encouraged increased funding, especially for humanitarian responses in Yemen and the Horn of Africa, so we can improve the effectiveness of our collective work to provide lifesaving assistance to those who need it most.
