On May 6, Administrator Samantha Power met with King Abdullah II to discuss USAID’s partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the shared commitment of the United States and Jordan to addressing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the urgent need for a ceasefire.

Administrator Power thanked King Abdullah II for the Kingdom’s significant humanitarian efforts in Gaza, and underscored the United States' commitment to surging more assistance to civilians in need. The King and Administrator discussed ongoing concerns about a military operation in Rafah, which risks a humanitarian catastrophe given the large civilian population and significant footprint of humanitarian operations in Rafah.

Administrator Power and King Abdullah II also discussed Jordan’s reform agenda, and ongoing work to bolster Jordan’s economy. The Administrator reiterated USAID’s commitment to supporting refugees in Jordan.
