Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

On March 11, Administrator Samantha Power spoke with Poland’s Undersecretary of State for Economic and Development Cooperation, Paweł Jabłoński about the worsening humanitarian needs among Ukrainians fleeing Putin’s unprovoked violence into Poland.

Minister Jabłoński shared that Poland has already welcomed more than 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine, and that he expects those numbers to continue to increase in coming weeks. The two discussed the United States commitment to supporting Poland, and the Administrator noted that the United States Congress has just approved additional funding to aid in this support. The Administrator spoke about her recent trip to the Polish-Ukrainian border and the two talked about ways that the U.S., along with our European allies and other UN and international partners, can work to provide increased assistance. They also discussed ways these partners can assist in preparing to support Ukrainians entering Poland who lack resources and networks including children who arrive without their parents.

They discussed ways to further build robust mechanisms of coordination and communications as this crisis continues, and Administrator Power thanked the Minister for the incredible generosity shown by the Polish government and the Polish people in supporting this vast number of Ukrainians crossing into the country.
