Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:

Today, Administrator Power met with Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova to express the U.S. Government’s solidarity with Ukraine, to discuss Power’s recent travel to Poland and Brussels, and to explore various plans for expanding humanitarian assistance into Ukraine.

The Administrator shared her experience visiting the Polish-Ukrainian border earlier this week, and the two discussed the harrowing experiences of those trying to flee Russia’s continued, unprovoked violence and aggression. They also discussed the Administrator’s conversations with Polish officials about the various ways they could work to increase the flow of much needed humanitarian assistance to civilians inside Ukraine. The Administrator provided updates from her meetings in Brussels with EU officials, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as with Ambassadors from the frontline countries bordering Ukraine. The Administrator affirmed the United States’ long standing partnership with Ukraine, and our gratitude to European allies who have shown enormous generosity welcoming Ukranians into their countries.

The Administrator and the Ambassador closed their meeting by watching together the overwhelming global condemnation of Russia's actions at the United Nations General Assembly.
