On July 28, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with His Excellency Massoudou Hassoumi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger to reaffirm USAID’s long-standing partnership with the government and people of Niger.

The group discussed the Government of Niger’s efforts to take on challenges facing the country including growing regional security concerns, the impact of climate change, and efforts to manage demographic growth. Deputy Administrator Coleman and Foreign Minister Massoudou also emphasized the importance of increasing girls’ access to secondary school.

Deputy Administrator Coleman highlighted the strong development relationship the United States Government has with Niger, including USAID’s support for agricultural productivity, food security, and increased water access. She also underscored USAID’s cooperation with the Millennium Challenge Corporation to promote private sector engagement and economic growth.

Deputy Administrator Coleman emphasized that USAID remains committed to maintaining close ties with the Government of Niger.
