The following is attributable to USAID Spokesperson Jessica Jennings:
Today, Administrator Power spoke with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths. Administrator Power and Mr. Griffiths discussed the urgent need for the rapid delivery of relief supplies to the people impacted by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria and Mr. Griffiths’s impressions following his trip to the impacted region this week. Administrator Power stressed the need for sustained and unhindered access for USAID’s UN and NGO partners in providing aid to northwest Syria, including possibly through UN Security Council action.
Administrator Power and Mr. Griffiths also discussed the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and the urgent need for the deal to be extended before it expires in a month, so that desperately needed grain and foodstuff from Ukraine can be exported to feed the world.
