Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

Today, Administrator Power met with Angelina Jolie, Special Envoy to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The two discussed strengthening systems, accountability and necessary tools to address gender based violence (GBV) around the world, particularly noting the need to end disparities in the support that victims receive due to race and other inequities. They identified opportunities to raise awareness and support for those affected by conflict and crises and discussed concern for the increased vulnerabilities people face when displaced, including around protection and gender-based violence, as well as on ending impunity for GBV. They also discussed the need for greater donor support and humanitarian access in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Yemen, among other crises.
