Today, David Marchick, the Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) announced his departure at the end of this month.
I want to thank Dave for his outstanding leadership of the DFC throughout this critical year. As the Vice Chair of the DFC Board of Directors and Administrator of USAID, I had the opportunity to work closely with Dave on many priority issues, including combating climate change and COVID-19. Dave came into the DFC at a time when strong, steady and strategic leadership was urgently needed. The DFC was coming through its first year of operations, and he helped create a culture where career officials feel empowered to initiate, drive, and evaluate investments on their merits. He also strengthened the DFC’s relationship with USAID, helped execute deals originated by our shared Mission Transaction Unit, and helped keep international development at the heart of DFC’s mission.
He did this all while leading DFC to its highest rate of new commitments in 25 years; supporting the development of manufacturing capacity for 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines in developing countries; undertaking ambitious climate commitments; and growing the agency by more than 15 percent.
As Dave moves on to his next chapter, he leaves behind a stronger, more engaged and more influential institution. He is an exemplary—and impactful—public servant, and will be sorely missed.
