Today, the Biden-Harris Administration released the President's discretionary funding request for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022, which invests in the core foundations of our country’s strength and will significantly advance U.S. national interests abroad.
The FY 2022 discretionary request prioritizes new USAID resources to: combat climate change, revitalize democratic values, address root causes of irregular migration from Central America, strengthen global health leadership, bolster humanitarian assistance, and invest in a diverse and inclusive USAID staff overseas and domestically.
This robust funding request demonstrates the United States’ recommitment to combating the impacts of climate change. It also reinvigorates USAID’s democracy, human rights, and governance programming to advance human rights and democratic values, fight corruption, stem the tide of democratic backsliding, and defend against authoritarianism. Furthermore, the discretionary request also provides, after multiple years of underfunding, $861 million in funding for the State Department and USAID to Central America to address root causes of irregular migration from Central America and expands USAID’s support for programs that focus on anti-corruption, human rights, poverty reduction, economic growth, and violence prevention, including gender-based violence.
The FY 2022 discretionary funding request advances U.S. national interests by working to address the most significant challenges in recent history. Americans can be proud of their investment in USAID and the return it brings to our national security and our economy. USAID’s work represents the best of the American people around the globe.
