Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). Administrator Power and President Adesina discussed the robust USAID-AfDB partnership on priorities including energy cooperation, facilitating women’s access to finance, agriculture and food security, and efforts to drive trade and investment that advance Africa’s economic development.

Following the meeting, Administrator Power and President Adesina signed a Letter of Intent for USAID and AfDB to advance women’s financial inclusion and support climate solutions by increasing women’s access to climate finance, including through USAID’s Climate Gender Equity Fund (CGEF). Administrator Power highlighted that CGEF’s first grantees are African women fund managers and accelerators investing in sustainability, climate mitigation, and clean energy. The Letter of Intent signed today establishes USAID’s and AfDB’s mutual commitment to support women-led and women-benefitting climate solutions, and outlines the ways in which USAID and AfDB will work together on closing the climate finance gap for African women.
