The Government of Nepal, in partnership with the U.S. Government, will contribute to improving the reading skills of one million public primary students (grades 1 to 3) in16 districts of Nepal through the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) new five-year, $53.8 million Early Grade Reading Program. Based on lessons learned from this program, an evidence-based early grade reading model will be scaled up nationally.

The Strengthening Political Parties, Electoral and Legislative Processes (SPPELP) project is a five-year, $26.5 million effort that supports political parties, electoral institutions, legislative processes, and civil society organizations to promote a more stable and peaceful democracy in Nepal. The project is designed to restore public confidence in democratic processes and institutions and to promote greater political participation, especially that of marginalized populations.

The Conflict Mitigation through Community Mediation project aims to increase mutual understanding among the conflicting groups and improve relationships between marginalized groups and their local governments, working together to resolve differences.

The project coordinates long-term earthquake risk reduction planning with the Government of Nepal, schools, and communities to increase earthquake awareness and preparedness.

The project aims to reduce the number of deaths and injuries and the negative socio-economic impact caused by disasters by building the response capacity of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and communities in Nepal.
