The Venezuelan Response and Integration Office (VRIO) assists the Government of Colombia (GOC) in its response to the current migration crisis.

The President’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 discretionary request for the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) represents a historic commitment to diplomacy and development. After four years of proposed cuts to foreign assistance in the President’s Budget Requests, the discretionary request proposes the most robust commitment in the Agency’s history to strengthen USAID’s development and humanitarian assistance around the world. The request significantly advances USAID efforts to: combat climate change, revitalize democratic values, address root causes of irregular migration in Central America, strengthen global health leadership, bolster humanitarian assistance, invest in a diverse workforce, and create inclusive work environments overseas and domestically, in accordance with the Interim National Security Strategy Guidance.

USAID’s government-to-government agreement with Colombia’s Ombudsman’s Office (or the Defensoría del Pueblo in Spanish) strengthens the institution’s internal processes, including the public defenders case management system.

The Inter-Ethnic Alliance for Peace Activity strengthens Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities’ advocacy, self-governance, organizational and leadership capacities.  The activity also improves food security, supports income generation activities, and promotes regional peacebuilding in alignment with the Peace Accord’s Ethnic Chapter.

The Human Rights Activity (HRA) works with the Government of Colombia (GOC) and civil society organizations to promote a culture of human rights and to prevent and respond to human rights violations. 

The Reactivation Colombia Activity increases income for populations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The activity supports inclusive economic growth by strengthening regional and national government capabilities to address current and future crises and economic shocks. 

The Citizen Security Dialogues activity builds trust between communities and justice and security service providers.  It leverages the United States Institute of Peace (USIP)’s Justice and Security Dialogue Methodology, develops pilots to improve information sharing, and addresses community-level concerns and priorities around security. 

School Feeding Response Activity (SFRA) supports the Government of Colombia’s (GOC) efforts to provide nutritious food to children in municipalities impacted by Venezuelan migration. 

The Responsive Governance (RG) activity enhances good governance, public financial management, and effective service delivery in conflict-affected municipalities.

Within the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative Farmer-to-Farmer -- Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Project generates rapid, sustained, and broad-based economic growth through short-term technical assistance in agriculture. Highly qualified American technical specialists come to Tajikistan for two-to-three-week assignments and work closely with farmers, agribusinesses, and institutions to share important knowledge and skills.
