On June 08, 2021, the United States Government signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Mexico to strengthen bilateral diplomatic ties to join forces in promoting development across the nations of Central America.

In late August 2021, USAID’s Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) for the Latin America and Caribbean, Mileydi Guilarte, paid her first official visit to Mexico.

Ambassador Kenneth Salazar was sworn in as United States Ambassador to Mexico on August 26, 2021.  In 1998, Mr. Salazar was elected as Colorado Attorney General and became the first Latino ever elected to statewide office in Colorado.  He was reelected as Attorney General in 2002.  In 2004, Attorney General Salazar was elected to the United States Senate for Colorado becoming the first Latino democrat to be elected to the United States Senate since 1972.
