Nineteen-year-old Ariana Dernjani never thought her dream of being an entrepreneur could come true. There are not many opportunities for teenagers in Hani i Elezit to grow professionally, so when the announcement from USAID’s Up to Youth Activity about an Entrepreneurship School appeared on the school hallways, Ariana was the first to seize the opportunity.

"This was a transformative opportunity that echoed through my school's hallways. Intrigued, I applied and even added my friend without her knowledge. Today, she's grateful for that little push,“ Ariana states proudly.  Up to Youth wasn't just an activity; it was a revelation that handed her a blueprint to turn her passion for baking into a thriving business.

Through USAID supported activities, Ariana met Azize, a young entrepreneur, who changed her perspective. Azize's journey showed her that being young was an advantage, not a limitation. It made her think big and different.
Following an internship in a pastry shop, Ariana started making cakes at home, prioritizing freshness. She chose every element with care, from ingredients cultivated in her backyard or from local producers. USAID’s Up to Youth Activity gave her more than business acumen; it broadened her horizons, fostered cherished friendships, and more importantly gave her independence.

Ariana is happy to share her motto “Thanks to USAID’s Up to Youth Activity, I navigate [through my work] confidently, inspiring other girls to pursue their dreams.”
