The Albanian diaspora in Austria has launched the first online supermarket offering Made-in-Kosovo products.  Ekena.at (meaning “We have it” in Albanian) exclusively promotes Kosovo-made foods, drinks, and hygiene products abroad.  The idea originated during a 2019 USAID-sponsored business matchmaking event with the Albanian Diaspora Business Network in Europe.

The website enables the Albanian diaspora in Austria to order products from Kosovo easily and conveniently.  The Ekena.at website (www.ekena.at) and mobile app are managed in Kosovo, and are available in Albanian and German languages.  The website carries 307 products from 14 different Kosovo brands listed online and another 500 additional products are currently being prepared for export.  The company currently has four employees in Kosovo, with plans to expand.

USAID’s Compete activity is currently facilitating the expansion of Ekena.at into Germany and Switzerland, which also have a large Kosovo diaspora population.  The partnership between USAID and the diaspora are creating significant export opportunities for Kosovo, while simultaneously promoting Kosovo brands abroad that citizens can identify without hesitation.
