USAID’s partner Kosovo Education Center launched an online platform for school children to access lessons on March 16.  The online classes are part of a country-wide effort to keep Kosovo’s students engaged in learning while at home during school closures.  This is the first launch of online learning in Kosovo, and complements the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation’s efforts to place video lessons online for grades 1-5.  Thanks to the hard work of USAID’s partners Mileniumi i Trete and Kosovo Education Center, school classes ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade are accessible online to all of Kosovo’s 345,540 primary and secondary students.

The M3 – eLearning online platform organizes lessons into six categories, one for each weekday and one for the weekend.  Each tab on the webpage corresponds to a main subject, which links to lessons grouped by week and then further divided by class year (grades).  The weekly schedule with tabs is as follows:  Albanian language and Communication on Monday, Math and ICT on Tuesday, English and German languages on Wednesday, Natural Sciences on Thursday, Social Sciences on Friday, and Arts and Physical Education over the weekend.  The lessons deliver learning in various forms for each age group, using Google Forms, PowerPoint presentations, video and audio recordings, Zoom meetings, and other online tools.  Teachers communicate with students and parents through various forms of virtual communication tools, with students submitting their tasks assigned by their teacher through email, Viber, or in apps such as, Google Classroom, Google Class Time, or just by clicking “submit” at the end of a Google Form.

Kosovo Education Center is currently USAID’s lead partner for the After School Support for Teens activity, which prepares Kosovo youth for 21st century life and work.  This five-year activity develops employability and entrepreneurial skills in Kosovo’s youth and a positive attitude for their future.
