On February 9, the Qadisiya Provincial Women’s Empowerment Department (PWED), in collaboration with the city Police Department and the Imam al-Kadhim University, conducted an awareness training on digital safety and online blackmailing. Forty-three female university students and local civil society members attended the session.

Qadisiya PWED manager Eman al-Maraabi, used USAID’s training modules on gender empowerment to explain various ways women are harassed online and how to deal with them. The Police Department explained the legal recourse for harassment victims through videos and case samples as well as data protection measures and online safety practices. “The session opened new coordination channels with female college students,” Ms. Maraabi said. Following the training, Ms. Maraabi scheduled a meeting to follow up with female participants who requested further information on the services provided by the PWED.
