On October 19, 2021, Administrator Samantha Power met with Indonesian Minister of Health Budi G. Sadikin and Vice Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong. Administrator Power thanked the Ministers for Indonesia’s long, strategic partnership with USAID, and affirmed the Agency’s commitment to supporting the country’s leadership in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and working together to advance global health security as Indonesia will soon assume the presidency of the G20.

Among the priorities discussed for continued collaboration were addressing vaccine hesitancy and the health impacts of COVID-19, strengthening primary health care, and exploring the use of health technology.  The leaders also discussed ongoing efforts to support climate and environment initiatives, such as orangutan conservation efforts and other forest and peatland management activities as well as encouragement for Indonesia to increase its carbon mitigation targets.
