Conakry, Guinea – the United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Guinea on October 19, 2023, launched the Wakili activity, which will help youth and women gain knowledge and skills that will enable them to become leaders, effective agents of change and peacebuilders in their communities.

Senior Guinean government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, development partners and Guinean religious authorities attended the event at the Riviera Hotel in Conakry.

The Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Conakry, Anne Dudte said while addressing the launch that the Wakili activity will help youth, including girls and young women, gain knowledge and skills that will enable them to lead healthy, engaged, and productive lives.

WAKILI – Femme et Engagement is a comprehensive four-year, $3.5 million dollars, aimed at facilitating increased participation of women and youth in peacebuilding mechanisms and decision-making bodies. The activity will also bolster the socioeconomic resilience of women and youth while actively involving opinion leaders and local authorities in peacebuilding and social cohesion activities. Additionally, the  activity seeks to enhance the capabilities of local organizations to advocate for peace, security, and social cohesion, with a particular focus on structures representing women and youth.

The Activity is implemented by Catholic Release Services (CRS) and will cover the regions of Upper Guinea, Forest Guinea, and Conakry.
